Metropolitan Atlanta Police Emerald Society HONOR GUARD

The Metropolitan Atlanta Police Emerald Society (M.A.P.E.S.) Honor Guard was formed in 1997 by the Executive Board. The Guard was put in place to be a representation of the Society as a whole, and reports to the President of the Board.

The M.A.P.E.S. Honor Guard is comprised of officers from various agencies throughout the metro Atlanta area, and is a direct reflection of the diversity of the Society. The Honor Guard is headed by the Honor Guard Sergeant who commands the Guard, and reports directly to the President and executive Board. The purpose of the Honor Guard is to represent M.A.P.E.S. at various events throughout the state. The events range from celebratory to the most somber of occasions. The types of events that the M.A.P.E.S. Honor Guard has attended are as follows:

  • Numerous Law Enforcement Funerals
  • Presentation of Colors for the Atlanta Braves
  • Presentation of Colors for the Atlanta Thrashers
  • Presentation of Colors for the Georgia Special Olympics Summer Games
  • Atlanta Saint Patrick’s Parade
  • Savannah Saint Patrick’s Parade
  • National Law Enforcement Emerald Society Pipe Band Parade (Washington DC)
  • National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Service (Washington DC)
  • Annual Georgia Law Enforcement Memorial Ride
  • and Ceremonies at the M.A.P.E.S. Annual Awards Banquet

The Guard currently has representation from the following agencies:

  • City of Atlanta Police
  • Cobb County Police
  • Cobb County Sheriff’s Office
  • Fulton County Police
  • Gwinnett County Police
  • Kennesaw State University Police
  • Metro Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority Police

And has representation in the past from:

  • City of Kennesaw Police
  • City of Woodstock Police
  • Dekalb County Police

The members of the Honor Guard are all highly dedicated individuals. None of them receives any type of compensation for being a member of the Guard. All members are volunteers, and take much pride in representing both their Departments and M.A.P.E.S. They all gain their satisfaction from knowing that they have put their best foot forward.
